The Grand Egyptian Museum inaugurated

A delegation from the "United States of the World" and the "Fondazione Mediterraneo" participated in the solemn inauguration ceremony of the Grand Egyptian Museum in Cairo (GEM).
The first GEM project was presented in Naples on 3 September 2003, at the headquarters of the United States of the World, by the then Egyptian Minister of Culture, Farouk Hosni (now the emotional presenter of the completed work!) and Mrs Suzanne Mubarak.
"An important moment, said Secretary-General Michele Capasso, which saw our institution among the first to support this unique museum, with the conviction that only culture can consolidate peace".
The world's largest museum dedicated to ancient Egypt, after more than twenty years, is now open and will attract more than five million tourists a year. Located next to the Pyramids of Giza, it contains 50,000 artefacts and is one of the mega-projects commissioned by President Abdel el Sissi.
The complex, designed by two architectural firms, Ireland's Heneghan Peng and Germany's Atelier Brückner, is located two kilometres from the Pyramids of Giza, so much so that it has been called “the fourth pyramid”.
